The authors — on Gawker at least — only star people willing to give verbal fellatio over how great an article is. Case-in-point: GREGORYABUTLER10031, known for his disgusting and perverse comments (with the occasional racist comment thrown in), was a starred commenter simply because he always agreed with articles, no matter how stupid the premise. He then went on to approve trolls and like-minded perverts and casual racists.
