Tumblr Look
Oh, so Tumblr changed the icons and buttons on the dashboard to a more flat look, kind of like Microsoft’s Metro design language? I like it, Tumblr staff. Nice subtle change.

Fox Bumps House for... NASCAR?!
Seriously? What the hell is this shit? I wanted to watch House, not some fucking cars driving around in circles.

Fuck Meryl Streep
While I will never deny that Meryl Streep can be a fantastic actress, she wasn’t deserving this year. At all. Viola Davis was robbed, and Rooney Mara was also a superb choice. Hell, Glenn Close would’ve been a better choice this year.
The Oscars have long been a popularity contest. When Penn won for his overrated performance in Milk over Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, that was never...

Beverly Hills is not a real place in the real world. Beverly Hills is what...
– Hamilton Nolan’s painfully smug intro to a piece about all the gift swag shenanigans at the Oscars. I mean, the idea for the article itself is good, but I just can’t get past this guy’s writing. He’s always so highfalutin in articles that require no intelligence at all....

Bah
The test I took was the “Thurstone Test of Mental Alertness”, and I did supremely horrible on it because I thought I was getting an error and went too slow. Fuck. I can’t believe I freaked out like that and messed up. Grrr.
Oh well, I guess if a future prospective employer asks me to take that test, I’ll actually know what the fuck to do.

Well, I Just Made An Ass of Myself
I had to take an online IQ-style test for a job application. Anyway, I had misread the instructions and thought one of the three forms of questions was incorrectly giving me the wrong answer choices. So after I finished, I sent off an e-mail to the HR individual who sent me the test link (and I put what I thought was an amusing postscript to make her smile), only to get a response seeing what an...
STFU, Conservatives: I wonder how long... →
socialistexan:
Seriously, how do y’all just ignore it like that and the freak out when the same (and in the case of the Personhood bill in Oklahoma not even as bad) thing happens in a coastal state there is a big hoopla?
I’m singling out STFUConservatives for a reason too, I remember when…
Yeah, the Texas sonogram law has been pretty extensively covered in the national press. But it...
Why do I seem to be reblogged constantly by...
14kgoldnyc:
I refuse to believe this is accurate, especially given that the damn cloud says I only reblogged 44 times in the last three months.
I only recently started following you, but I’m reblogging this because it seems like the right thing to do.

Internet = Stupid
I don’t get how so many people on the Internet are so stupid (no, not you reading this! I swear!). It’s like a haven for trolls, bigotry, and stupidity. It wouldn’t be such a big deal if they didn’t seem to dominate every site, but they do. It’s pretty infuriating.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy
I watched A Good Old Fashioned Orgy yesterday, and it was actually surprisingly good. I was partly expecting something stupid and crude, like Hall Pass (another Jason Sudeikis-led movie), but it was just funny. If you like sex jokes, you’d probably enjoy it.
It’s got a pretty fun cast, and the general premise is absurd, but somehow they make it work. I’m surprised it...
Gawker: Starting to Suck More
I won’t pretend I don’t occasionally visit Gawker. But now, I visit it maybe two or three times a day, compared to pre-Daulerio days when I’d have a Gawker tab open on my browser at all times.
Anyway, I visited today only to see yet another crappy article by Drew Magary (who else?) “apologizing” for his days as a bully. One commenter called him out for his Tucker...
Job Search: Part II →
walkingonmypath:
I got my degree too, but, i am so confused whether i can gain a job. Its sad.
Hi Mandy. I’m sure you’re capable of gaining a job, it’s just difficult at the moment, as we’ve both found out. It’s really depressing not being able to find one, but all we can really do is keep at it.

Job Search
My job search is going insanely poorly.
I’ve been looking since I graduated with my master’s in early December, and I just can’t seem to get any callbacks. I’ve applied to at least 20 places (and good applications — not half-assed stuff; places I’d be a good fit, too) in the past three weeks or so, and still nothing. Networking isn’t working, either....

– Reading Emma Carmichael’s article about CPAC is simultaneously amusing (how are “legitimate” politicians so stupid?) and frightening (how are “legitimate” politicians so stupid?!).
Speaking of which, educated wives also get better sex, whatever their partner’s...
– - Stephanie Coontz, killing it
I really enjoyed this article. It’s great to see someone presenting a sane point of view, instead of all these fear-mongering articles about how both men and women are dissatisfied when a woman earns more or has obtained a higher educational status than her...

Karmin on SNL
I was watching SNL fully expecting to hate this Karmin act, but you know what? She (they?) are mediocre. She’s not good. She’s not bad. She’s just in-between. It’s the kind of stuff you’d expect to hear on a radio station for pop music. It won’t make your ears bleed, but there’s tons of better music to listen to. (Although the lyrics are truly terrible.)

The Case of A.J. Dauloreo
acmesalesrep:

joiesdevivre:
I don’t want to give gawker more hits but this shit is unreal.
Premium asshole.
But the response was genius. Daulerio threw down the gauntlet, and somebody not only defied him but completely eviscerated him. I’m kind of surprised that they let the comment stand*. I’m not at all surprised that they banned the account.
*Not really. Daulerio would do...
Wore My Right Sock Inside Out All Day
Because I’m a rebel like that.
I mean, no one saw. But if someone had noticed, (s)he would’ve been all, “Holy shit, don’t fuck with that guy. He’s a rebel.” I just don’t like to flaunt my nonconformity, you know? It intimidates people.
Any reports you hear about this incident being an accident and not an act of a rebellion are clearly false.

A.J. Dauloreo
feelinghellastabby:
I never would have ever imagined in a million billion years that A.J. Daulerio would be Gawker’s EIC. What the fuck were you thinking, Denton.
P.S. The comments on the banning post are hilarious.
I was just searching the Gawker tag and saw this post. I may or may not be the A.J. Dauloreo commenter… and I may or may not have had an immense amount of fun writing that...

A.J. Daulerio, Ruining Gawker One Post at a Time
Is this seriously supposed to be funny? It’s just stupid. I don’t understand Daulerio. He’s taking what used to be a great site and running it into the ground. I get that his shtick worked over at Deadspin, but I don’t get what he’s attempting to do at Gawker. Gawker is a site for intelligent conversation on important issues, celebrity snark, and occasional silly...

Karen Handel Resigns from Komen Foundation
Both Gawker and Jezebel are covering Karen Handel’s resignation pretty beautifully (and Erin Gloria Ryan definitely wins the “best news title of the day” award in my book).
It’s going to be interesting to see how the general media covers the resignation, though. Handel was obviously trying to gain some sympathy points by publicly refusing her potential severance package,...

Re: Eastwood Super Bowl Commercial
Maybe I’m just the only one, but I thought it was fucking awful. It wasn’t a commercial for Chrysler, it was a commercial for America. Man, it’s so hard to sell America to Americans.
At least when Eminem did his version of this commercial it was relevant. The motor industry crisis had just happened, and Eminem is from Detroit, so it made sense. But Clint Eastwood? C’mon....

The moment when...
When you see an ex post a comment on a mutual friend’s Facebook that is completely opposite of your viewpoint is both an amazing feeling (“whew, glad that didn’t work out!”) and simultaneously disappointing (“…how did I not see this when we were going out?!”).
